LOOK WHAT'S COOKIN'

Well here's the latest new home update.

Boring builder kitchen transformed to an open concept (think NYC loft) inspired kitchen!

There's still plenty to do but this is the first reveal.

We still needed more storage and I wanted to keep the concept open.

I always tend to add a *little* of the unexpected in my interior designs.

I fell in love with this orange stove!

It was one of my inspirations for this kitchen design... and no, it's not little :)

 Just beautiful craftsmanship.

I just love the uniqueness of the orange color.

Are you bold enough to put a bright orange stove in your kitchen?

The new drop-down, stand-alone hood was a major feature that had to be added to this kitchen.

The new hood and stove go perfectly together.

 Now the needed accessories.

 I chose these metal and wood stools for their industrial look.

I wanted the white to pop from the island's gray color.

 I really liked the natural element that the wood brings to the stools. 

It adds a softness to the industrial feel.

Adding another small pop of color to the walls brings in needed balance.

We had this amazing painting from a long-time artist friend.

It goes to show that you can incorporate items that you already have when you redesign your spaces.

Adding this new George Nelson inspired clock added a bit of a vintage look.

The stainless steel works with the appliances and you can't go wrong adding a retro piece to your home.

As you can see with the paint swatches still on the cabinets that we have much to do.

The next step is to paint the cabinets, add hardware, and find the perfect pendant lights.

The future plan is to also replace the existing countertops with quartz.

I hope you like the transformation as much as I do.

I know that a modern interior may not be everyones taste, but don't be afraid to think outside of the box.

Home renovations can take time and money.

If it's time to renovate or redecorate your home, remember that you can do it a bit at a time.

There are no rules that say you must do all the renovations at once.

If you have the funds and the time to do that, then by all means.  I just want you to know that there are always options. Sometimes you have to do it a step at a time and the results will still be fabulous!

NEW HOUSE UPDATE

The realities of moving into new construction!

We're finally in and my mind is spinning with design ideas for every room.

"One thing at a time" is what I have to keep telling myself.

The reality of moving and redecorating at the same time is to expect the MESS!

Moving blankets and stuff everywhere.

Upper kitchen cabinets gone and lots of spackle fills.

This is a preview of our amazing new Bertazzoni range and yes, it's sitting in the middle of the living room at the moment :)

New refrigerator is in place and walls are prepped and ready for paint.

With new construction the blue tape roll becomes your new best friend.

You have a 30-day punch list

(a list of things that you find wrong within the first 30 days and mark it with blue painters tape).

Mostly spackle imperfections.

You can find blue tape all over the house at the moment.

You can also see my paint swatches going up.

This isn't really high design, but to me it's the little things that count.

I had to add towel rings near the sinks in all three bathrooms.

I also like the convenience of robe hooks, so we didn't hesitate to add them.

The builder supplied one towel holder in each bathroom.

We took the long holder from the powder room and added it to the master bath.

As you can see with the spackle marks, we moved the existing one up and lowered the additional one.

Initially the builders added the wrong color vanity top in the hall bathroom.

It happens.

Soon enough it was changed out to the correct color.

I wanted to keep a clean look with all white fixtures.

Still have to pick a paint color for this room.

New added bench and a simple rug in the foyer area

I used a ceramic pot and branches that were from the deck of our old house.

The branches are from an old white birch tree that we had to cut down.

Pulling the foyer together... it's a start.

The future plan is to replace the existing flooring with hardwood.

Add that to the list!

One challenge with a new house is finding the right place for your existing furniture.

We initially set the space up putting the couch against the wall.

Then rearranged it a bit. 

Take your time and try the furniture in different configurations until you "feel" it works best.

No worries... you can always move it again.

Setting up a little vignette starts to make your place feel like home.

Move your accessories around until you get the right placement and balance.
